The Maldives Police Service has warned of strict legal action after personal details of several officers and their families were leaked online following the MDP rally in Malé on October 3.
The rally, organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party, turned tense when some protesters confronted police officers who were trying to stop an unlawful gathering and restore order.
Police said the personal information shared on social media was aimed at intimidating officers and creating public hate toward them. The service stated that anyone who exposes, threatens, or obstructs officers from carrying out their duties whether online or in person will face the harshest legal action possible.
“Spreading fear or targeting officers and their families is a crime. We will act,” police said, vowing to protect their officers and maintain public order.
