The government has handed over the ADh. Dhangethi land reclamation project to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The agreement was signed by Construction Minister Dr. Abdullah Muttalib and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee. Cabinet ministers, MPs, council members, and senior officials attended the signing ceremony.
The project covers the reclamation of 27.32 hectares of land and includes 718 meters of revetment, a 500-meter low-crest breakwater, and 625 meters of groynes. Coastal protection work will involve pumping 66,500 cubic meters of sand and installing 492 meters of geobag revetment.
Valued at MVR 279.9 million, the project aims to protect homes and roads from erosion, create plots for youth housing, and expand opportunities for guesthouse businesses. Officials said it will drive Dhangethi’s economic and social growth.
MTCC is expected to complete the project within 570 days.
