MTCC flags corruption in Mahaa Jarraafu repair, submits case to ACC

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported suspected corruption in the 2022 repair of its dredger Mahaa Jarraafu and submitted the case to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for investigation.

MTCC said expenses at Dubai Dockyard were several times higher than reasonable and facilitated corruption. The company noted the issue was uncovered through internal reports and brought to its Board of Directors.

In its submission, MTCC requested the ACC to probe serious breaches of rules and procedures that may have enabled corrupt practices.

The company also asked the ACC to investigate negligence in handling shareholders’ funds and to assist in recovering the losses.
