MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed the agreement today with Housing Minister Dr. Abdullah Muttalib. Naifaru, home to 5,787 people, faces major harbor congestion. Residents struggle with cargo handling and passenger movement. MTCC said the new harbor will ease these challenges and boost fishing and trade. The project includes dredging 26,960 cubic meters, building a 340-meter quay wall, a 182-meter breakwater, a 1,390 square meter pavement, and installing harbor lights. The work will take 360 days and cost MVR 47.5 million. MTCC, established in 1980, continues to lead infrastructure and urban development across the Maldives.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to raise the fish purchase price and resolve key challenges facing fishermen.

The President met fishermen at the President’s Office this morning, marking his third meeting with the community. The Fishermen demanded a clear timeline for raising the fish price to MVR 20 per kilogram. They also raised concerns over declining baitfish, loan difficulties at BML, and the need for digital weighing scales at MIFCO.

The President assured them the price hike will follow once the 48-hour payment system stabilises. He pledged to instruct BML to ease loan applications and reduce paperwork. He said land reclamation in Vaavu Atoll will continue in consultation with fishermen.

He also confirmed plans to standardise fuel prices across atolls by March next year. MIFCO will soon begin fuel sales. Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to solve fishermen’s concerns and strengthen the industry.
