President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government will consider relocating the people of V. Rakeedhoo if the majority supports the move.
During his visit to the island, the President met with the Council, the Women’s Development Committee, and local residents, who raised their concerns and expressed a desire to move to another island.
The President said the government will act in accordance with its population consolidation policy, but only if at least 80% of the island’s residents agree. He emphasized that local tourism development in Rakeedhoo will also be taken into account before any decision is made.
As part of the visit, the President also inaugurated the new Bank of Maldives ATM service in Rakeedhoo.
