President Seeks Fulidhoo Approval for Reclamation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has asked residents of Vaavu Fulidhoo to provide written confirmation supporting a plan to reclaim 12 hectares of land, citing the island’s acute land shortage.

President Muizzu made the appeal during his visit to Fulidhoo on Friday, part of his tour of four atolls. He said the island’s land is fully occupied, with no new plots issued in 15 years. Fulidhoo currently has 521 residents and 27 guesthouses, with 100 more beds in development.

The President linked the proposed reclamation to the harbor project that began today, but said written assurances were needed to avoid setbacks like the Dhonfanu reclamation, which was halted after opposition from residents over environmental concerns.

He said the Fulidhoo project is planned to start early next year.
