The government has decided to transfer NSPA’s medical welfare scheme to Aasandha Company.
The Health Ministry said the change is aimed at strengthening healthcare services and providing support through a single system. Under the new arrangement, Aasandha will manage a range of medical welfare services previously handled by NSPA.
These include assistance for cancer treatment, medicines for chronic illnesses, overseas medical referrals, special medical tests, medical equipment and support for students studying abroad. Additional support will also be provided for patients travelling overseas for treatment and returning to their home islands.
The ministry said applications for overseas referrals must be recommended by a specialist doctor, while requests for treatments already available in Malé will not be approved.
Officials said the move is intended to reduce difficulties faced by patients and provide faster access to services.
