MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed has outlined key priorities aimed at strengthening Velana International Airport.
Speaking at the Aviation Forum 2026, Connecting Maldives held at Hotel Jen, Shareef highlighted efforts focused on expanding airport capacity, improving operational efficiency and diversifying revenue streams.
He said VIA’s development strategy is centred on preparing for future passenger demand while improving the overall airport experience. Ongoing initiatives include upgrades to passenger services, cargo operations and major infrastructure development.
The CEO also highlighted MACL’s digital transformation plans, including self-check-in services, baggage drop systems, immigration e-gates and biometric facilitation aimed at streamlining passenger movement.
Officials said the company is also focusing on strengthening non-aeronautical revenue through retail, lounges, commercial partnerships and digital services, while improving operational resilience and international connectivity.
