Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, has revealed that a total of 233 Right to Information (RTI) requests have been submitted to the President’s Office under the Right to Information Act.
Speaking at a press conference, the spokesperson said the President’s Office continues to provide information in response to RTI submissions, while also highlighting challenges faced in processing some requests.
According to Shareef, from May 2018 to December 2020, the President’s Office received 182 RTI requests, of which 170 have been responded to. Since January this year, 106 RTI requests have been submitted, with 63 responses issued so far.
The spokesperson noted that some RTI requests are being sent to offices that are not responsible for the requested information, which contributes to delays in responses. He also stated that certain RTIs are submitted with broad or highly specific objectives, making it difficult to provide the requested information without further clarification.
Shareef further stressed that information related to national security cannot be disclosed, even if requested under the RTI Act.
During the press conference, the spokesperson also shared statistics related to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent visits to several countries.
