President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has taken part in a tree planting ceremony in Colombo.
The ceremony was held at Vihara Mahadevi Park, where the President was received by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The two leaders then planted Horsfieldia iryaghedhi, a critically endangered species native to Sri Lanka.
Officials said the act symbolises the close ties between the two countries and reflects a shared commitment to environmental sustainability. The event also highlights efforts to promote cooperation on issues affecting future generations.
The ceremony forms part of the President’s ongoing State Visit, which includes a series of engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
