The Supreme Court has ruled that MP Mohamed Sinan has lost his parliamentary seat.
The verdict was delivered unanimously by a five-judge bench. Judge Aisha Shujoon Mohamed delivered the ruling, with all judges supporting the decision.
The case was filed over failure to repay a loan of MVR 2.5 million. The petition argued that the unpaid debt made him ineligible to remain in office.
Under the Constitution, members who fail to settle debts are disqualified from holding a seat in the People’s Majlis.
The ruling brings Sinan’s parliamentary membership to an end.
