President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has planned an official visit to Sri Lanka next month.
Preparatory talks were held at Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary complex between Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar and the Maldivian High Commissioner, focusing on cooperation and investment opportunities ahead of the visit.
According to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, both sides explored expanding collaboration in the fisheries industry, including knowledge-sharing and joint product development.
Discussions highlighted the potential to combine Maldives’ fresh fish supply with Sri Lanka’s established canning industry to produce new value-added products.
Both parties also expressed interest in processing production in Sri Lanka for export to the Maldivian market.
Officials noted that some Sri Lankan products currently reach the Maldives via intermediaries in Dubai, with talks also addressing the establishment of direct supply channels to streamline trade.
