Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company has begun construction of an ice plant in M.Veyvah to improve access to ice for fishermen.
The plant will produce 60 tonnes of flake ice per day and include a storage facility with capacity for 100 tonnes.
The project agreement was signed on 27 September 2025, with a 240-day completion period. MIFCO said materials have been transported to the island and foundation work is now underway.
The project is part of efforts by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (Maldives) to strengthen fisheries infrastructure and support sustainable development of the sector in the Maldives.
