Maldivian football star Ali Ashfaq, known as Dhagandey, has been named in the national team squad after three years.
Ashfaq has been out of the national side due to a series of injuries. His last appearance for the Maldives was in December 2022 in a friendly against Singapore.
He stepped away from the team during the tenure of then head coach Francesco Moriero. Last year, he underwent surgery after struggling with a prolonged knee injury.
The 40-year-old signed for New Radiant this season. He spent much of the campaign recovering.
Ashfaq returned to action toward the end of the Dhivehi Premier League season. Since then, he has been working to regain form.
Despite his age, Ashfaq still contributes to the team’s attack. He often strengthens the side when brought on as a substitute.
Fans have welcomed his return to the squad.
