The foundation stone has been laid for a new campus of the Maldives National University in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll.
Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Mohamed Waheed attended the ceremony.
Also present were Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem, Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Ahmed Saudee, and Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University Mohamed Saleem.
The project will develop a multi-block campus comprising academic, administrative, and residential buildings.
It is valued at MVR 80.79 million and is scheduled for completion within 720 days.
Officials say the new campus will allow students in Baa Atoll to pursue higher education without leaving the atoll, reducing education costs and expanding opportunities for local students.
