Kong Xianhua has highlighted the shared values of unity, gratitude and hope between Ramadan and China’s Spring Festival in a message reflecting on cultural ties between the Maldives and China.
He noted that while Ramadan holds deep spiritual meaning for Maldivians, the Spring Festival also known as Chinese New Year serves a similar role for Chinese communities, bringing families together and symbolising renewal and prosperity.
The Chinese Embassy recently hosted its 2026 Spring Festival Reception in the Maldives, bringing together Maldivian officials, foreign diplomats and Chinese residents to celebrate the occasion.
At the event, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu conveyed greetings on behalf of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and China.
