As part of government efforts to ease pressure on small and medium enterprises, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revised the free storage period for conventional cargo at Malé Commercial Port.
Under the changes, break-bulk cargo stored in open areas will receive 10 days of free storage, while conventional cargo in open storage areas will be allowed five free days.
MPL said the revised policy will take effect from February 1. From 2026 onwards, goods arriving in Malé City will be unloaded directly from vessels.
The company said the move aims to improve efficiency at the port while supporting businesses facing economic challenges.
