Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has commenced reclamation works on the remaining portion of K. Giraavarufalhu on January 30, 2026.
A total of 167.15 hectares has been designated for reclamation at Giraavarufalhu. MACL has now begun works on the remaining 97.15 hectares of the site. The reclamation is being carried out using a 22,000 cubic metre capacity dredger, Oranje.
The reclaimed land has been allocated for housing development for residents of Malé. MACL said the project supports national housing and infrastructure goals and is being implemented in line with government priorities.
