Goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin has scored a dramatic stoppage-time header to lift Benfica to a thrilling 4–2 win over Real Madrid and secure a Champions League play-off place.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring for Real, but Andreas Schjelderup equalised before Vangelis Pavlidis converted a penalty to put Benfica ahead at half-time. Schjelderup struck again after the break, and although Mbappé scored his second of the night, Benfica held firm.
Real’s hopes faded late on as Raúl Asencio and Rodrygo were both sent off in stoppage time. Moments later, Trubin rose to head home from a free-kick, sealing Benfica’s qualification on goal difference.
