The Maldivian national futsal team has received a hero’s welcome after winning the SAFF Futsal Championship, returning home with the trophy to celebrations and fireworks.
The undefeated champions were greeted at Velana International Airport by Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu, FAM President Ahmed Thoriq (Tom), Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, family members, and football officials. Celebrations continued with a bus parade from the Social Center to the Artificial Beach, where captain Mohamed Imran (Inmi) officially hoisted the trophy.
Fireworks, boduberu, musical performances and public photo sessions followed. Maldives won all six matches in the tournament, finishing with 18 points, and the government has announced a MVR 1 million bonus for the team.
