President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the education system in the atolls will be developed to match the standard of schools in Malé, noting a continued rise in students relocating to the capital for schooling.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Shaheed Ali School, President Muizzu said more than 1,500 students moved from the islands to Malé this year, highlighting disparities in access to education outside the capital.
He said the administration’s policy is to provide inclusive education and remove barriers to learning, calling on teachers and parents to play a role in strengthening students’ educational foundations.
Shaheed Ali School, completed within two years, opened with over 1,900 students and modern facilities. The Education Ministry said the school can accommodate up to 2,500 students if operated in two sessions.
