MIFCO has started purchasing large skipjack tuna weighing over 10 kilos, as part of government efforts to support fishermen and strengthen the fisheries sector.
MIFCO said it is buying 10–15 kilo skipjack at MVR 20 per kilo, while fish weighing over 15 kilos are being purchased at MVR 25 per kilo. Purchases are being made through MIFCO centers and boats.
Large skipjack were bought yesterday from Kooddoo Port, Addu Port, Fuvahmulah City, G.Dh. Gaddhoo and G.Dh. Thinadhoo.
MIFCO said payments will be released within 48 hours. The company said the move aims to ease challenges faced by fishermen and boost progress in the fisheries sector, according to Senior Manager and Public Relations, Uza Shifza Mustafa.
