The Elections Commission (EC) has opened applications for the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections.
EC said interested candidates can submit applications until 3:30 p.m. on February 1. The elections will take place on April 4, with voting scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Applicants must submit all required documents and pay administrative fees through the commission’s main portal, my.elections.gov.mv. EC said it will announce candidate nominations through the same portal.
A total of 678 candidates will contest local council seats. Another 678 candidates will run for women’s development committee positions.
The election will see 249,937 eligible voters. This includes 144,527 women and 150,410 men.
EC has also opened the window to submit complaints about the voters’ register. Complaints must be filed through my.elections.gov.mv before 3:00 p.m. on the 18th of this month. Political parties must submit complaints via the Simedha portal.
