President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has warned against the spread of anti Islamic political ideologies in the Maldives, saying they should not be allowed to take root at any level of governance.
The President made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the main building of the People’s National Congress (PNC).
He criticised the opposition for opposing a government bill submitted to parliament last week to criminalise gambling and gambling establishments, saying such positions contradict the values of an Islamic society.
“In a 100 percent Islam-loving society, ideologies that encourage anti-religious activities should not be allowed,” the President said. He warned that allowing such views to gain influence, even at the council level, would be a mistake.
The President added that laws and regulations cannot succeed if those implementing them hold views that conflict with religious values. He urged voters to elect candidates who support government policies in the upcoming local council elections.
