The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that haze-related air pollution will continue to affect parts of the Maldives for the next five days.
HPA, citing the National Meteorological Agency (MET), said the haze is concentrated in central atolls but is also affecting other regions. The pollution is caused by seasonal northeasterly winds carrying pollutants from India and is expected to last until early next week.
Red alerts are in effect for Villimale’, Dhaalu Atoll, and Laamu Atoll, where everyone faces health risks. Orange alerts have been issued for Male’, Fuvahmulah, and Shaviyani Atoll, with higher risks for vulnerable groups.
HPA urged the public to limit outdoor activities, wear protective masks, and follow air quality updates, noting that no significant rainfall is forecast to clear the haze.
