Land reclamation for the HA.Dhidhdhoo airport has officially begun, advancing plans to expand regional air services.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has started the land reclamation project for the development of an airport in Dhidhdhoo. The project follows a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the island’s residents.
A total of 111 hectares of land will be reclaimed using one of the world’s largest trailing suction hopper dredgers.
Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer inaugurated the project, with senior MACL officials, Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, and Island Council President Abdulla Rasheed in attendance.
MACL said the Liv Ericsson dredger can extract up to 46,000 cubic meters of sand at a time, allowing the reclamation work to progress faster.
