The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has said that work is underway to release state funds to 39 eligible media outlets.
MMBC said the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts will disburse the funds. A total of 57 media outlets were registered on the assistance portal, with 41 meeting the eligibility criteria.
Payments were temporarily halted after it emerged that two outlets operated by the same company had applied for assistance. Following discussions with the outlets, funding for one of them was withheld.
MMBC confirmed that 40 applications qualify for state aid, with funds now being processed for 39. The Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are finalising the release.
The commission said the initiative aims to strengthen and empower the media sector, marking a key step under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
