Police have announced the launch of “Operation Riveli” starting tonight, timed with the annual school holidays.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef said the operation will cover Malé, nearby islands, and resorts.
He noted that crime typically rises during holiday periods, making crime reduction the main focus of the operation. Police urged the public to take extra precautions while travelling.
Residents are advised not to leave valuables unattended, to secure homes properly, and to entrust properties to someone reliable. Police also warned vehicle owners to ensure motorcycles and other vehicles are safely secured. In Malé, they recommend parking in well lit, busy areas or locations with CCTV coverage.
