Maafaru International Airport has opened its expanded apron and laid the foundation for a new two-storey terminal to boost capacity and services.
The airport’s development is funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The first phase was awarded in 2018 to Singapore’s Tough Offshore Engineering Services for USD 49 million, while the second phase went to MTCC in 2022 for USD 27 million.
Island Aviation plans to expand the terminal by 900 square meters, including new VIP lounges. A Chinese company will construct the terminal, with completion expected in 10 months.
Once finished, the terminal will enhance passenger experience and strengthen both local and international transport at Maafaru.
