ITA Airways has started operating from the new Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport, adding to the terminal’s growing list of international carriers.
The Italian airline launched services from Terminal 1 on 20 December 2025. MACL marked the milestone with a special ceremony at the airport. Minister at the Presidential Palace Iqbal Adam attended the event alongside ITA Airways Outstation Coordinator Daniel Piras and senior MACL officials.
MACL opened the airline’s check-in counters the same day. ITA Airways gave gifts to 60 departing passengers. A ceremonial welcome greeted 290 arriving passengers on flight AZ776. ITA Airways is the second Italian carrier at Terminal 1. The airline has operated in the Maldives since December 2022.
Terminal 1 now serves 35 airlines.
