The government has reclaimed over 215 hectares of land for Rasmale. part of a massive development push to ease the Male region’s housing and space shortages.
Reclamation began earlier this month using one of the world’s largest hopper dredgers. The project will reclaim 1,009 hectares in total.
Of the contracted areas, 394 hectares were given to Mohan Mutha, 100 hectares to China Harbour Engineering, and 53.25 hectares of the 265 hectare section have already been reclaimed.
The reclaimed land will include housing, industrial zones, and marina spaces. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu earlier announced that 15,000 people will be selected for plots before the reclamation is complete.
