President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged SAARC to rebuild trust and reconvene its summit as the organisation marks the 40th anniversary of its Charter.
In a message to the SAARC Secretary-General, the President said the region must revive dialogue and unity to unlock its full potential. He stressed that stronger cooperation is vital to tackle shared challenges, including climate change, renewable energy, public health, food security, and inequality.
He said SAARC needs a stronger institutional framework to respond effectively to regional issues and better serve its people. The President reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to a more active and forward-looking SAARC that prioritises common interests and promotes peace and stability.
SAARC Charter Day is marked on December 8 each year.
