The government has launched the construction of a new 50-bed H.A. Atoll Hospital in Dhihdhoo, marking a major boost to regional healthcare.

The Health Minister, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, inaugurated the physical works today in Dhihdhoo. The event brought together Dhihdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudi, atoll and island council members, and officials from several government bodies.

The project includes a 50 bed hospital and a four storey accommodation block. The government awarded the MVR 185.57 million project with a completion target of 780 days.

Dhihdhoo is the atoll capital and the sixth most populous island in the country. Many residents from across Thiladhunmathi travel to the island for healthcare. For years, citizens complained that the old atoll hospital was worn down and lacked key services.

Local communities hope the new building will end the need for costly trips to Malé. Once completed, the hospital is expected to greatly improve access to medical care across the region.
