Air Asia, Malaysia and Thai Asia officially began operations at the new Terminal 1 at Velana Internation Airport (VIA).
Velana International Airport hosted a grand ceremony to mark the official opening of Air Asia Malaysia and Thai Asia at Terminal 1. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company’s Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee attended the event as well as Air Asia Group Station Manager Ibrahim Abdul Kareem and MACL officials.
The check-in counters for both airlines were officially inaugurated. The first flights arrived with 164 passengers from Air Asia Malaysia and 138 from Thai Asia. Passengers received gifts as part of the celebration. The first arrivals, AK074 and FD175, were warmly welcomed with cultural performances.
The event signified a major milestone for Maldives’ low-cost airline sector.
