The President stated this while speaking at the ceremony celecbrating two years of this administration. He stated that there are no gangs in the Maldives today. He also explained that the new gang bill regulates how gangs can form. These rules require police approval, court approval, and adherence to guidelines. Ever since these restrictions, no gangs meet the criteria.
The Home Ministry confirms this finding. The president praises the strong guidelines, saying they prevent gang formation. He clarifies the purpose is not to punish but to reduce crime. He hopes former gang members avoid bad actions. He also highlights ongoing efforts to help drug addicts. Rehabilitation programs are also in place.
The government aims to stop drug supply, following Islamic principles. Once supply stops, the focus shifts to helping addicts. The president promises support for families and young people.
