President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the allowance for single mothers will rise to MVR 3,000 per child starting January 2026.
The President made the announcement while meeting residents of L. Gan during his tour of L. Atoll. He said next year’s State budget allocates MVR 211 million to support the increase.
He also announced a new monthly allowance of MVR 1,000 for thalassaemia patients, with MVR 11.7 million set aside for the program.
The President said the initiatives reflect his administration’s commitment to compassion and inclusion. He noted that single parents with four children will now receive up to MVR 12,000 monthly in total assistance.
These new measures aim to ease financial pressures and strengthen social welfare across the Maldives.
