President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to develop a five-star resort and hotel school in L. Maamendhoo, creating new training and job opportunities for Maldivian youth.
The announcement was made during a meeting with residents as part of the President’s tour of Hadhdhunmathi Atoll.
An agreement to establish the hotel school and resort was signed during the event. Dr. Raheema Abdul Raheem, Vice-Chancellor of Maldives National University (MNU), signed for the university, while Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed signed for the developers.
Several other development projects were also formalised, including harbour development, land reclamation, shore protection, and road construction. Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Adam Shareef Umar laid the foundation for a new Council Secretariat building, while new laboratory services at the Maamendhoo Health Centre were inaugurated.
President Muizzu said the Maamendhoo projects are a top government priority. He confirmed that construction of a new Police Station will begin this year, while school development and sports facilities will be included in the 2026 budget.
