Two major development projects have been launched in Laamu Fonadhoo to improve transport, strengthen infrastructure, and enhance quality of life for residents.
MTCC has been awarded the third phase of the Fonadhoo Land Reclamation and Modern Road Development Project. The signing ceremony took place in L. Fonadhoo during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s trip to Laamu Atoll.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muttalib signed on behalf of the government. At the same time, Deputy Commissioner and Managing Director Ahmed Saudy (Retired) signed for MTCC.
The project includes developing 12.36 kilometers of roads, installing drainage systems, constructing boundary walls, laying service lines, and paving roads. In addition, it includes a flood mitigation area. The MVR 89.17 million project will be completed in 720 days.
Furthermore, work has also begun on the Fonadhoo Harbor Development Project. The ceremony was held in L. Fonadhoo, and was attended by the President along with senior government officials.
MTCC will dredge and reclaim 98,233 cubic meters of area, reclaim 4,497 cubic meters of shallow zone, and build a 482-meter quay wall, 92-meter breakwater, and 171-meter revetment. Overall, the MVR 89.58 million project will finish in 540 days, giving Fonadhoo a safe, modern harbor with better cargo and vessel facilities.
