President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to complete the development of L. Kadhdhoo Airport within three years, alongside several key projects aimed at boosting Fonadhoo’s infrastructure and economy.
The announcement came during a meeting with residents of L. Fonadhoo on Monday evening. The gathering also formalised contracts for land reclamation, coastal protection, and the airport’s handover to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
The airport project will reclaim 114 hectares for a 2,800 meter runway and 30 hectares to expand Fonadhoo Island. Land reclamation is expected within a year, with full completion in 36 months.
Other projects include a Maldives National University campus, a language school, office complex, harbor, third phase of road construction, and a sports complex for 1,200 spectators. Housing work for 100 units has begun, with 500 units planned. A 50 bed hospital and a transhipment harbor will also be developed.
The President emphasised that these initiatives will boost tourism, education, and the economy, while creating jobs and advancing regional growth.
