Construction of the GDh. Thinadhoo Cold Storage and Associated Facilities Project is steadily moving forward, with major components nearing completion.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) reports that work on the admin building, cold storage, and chemical and salt store has reached 48%, 80%, and 56% completion.
The project, developed with MIFCO, aims to expand national cold storage capacity and strengthen fisheries infrastructure. When complete, the facility will include a 1,000-ton cold storage unit and a 50-ton brine-freezing system per shift, improving fish handling and export quality.
Officials say the new facility will cut fish spoilage, boost exports, and improve income for fishermen while creating jobs and supporting local businesses in Thinadhoo and nearby islands.
MTCC began work on the project after receiving the civil works contract on July 11, 2023.
