The Maldives has taken a major step to protect Sh. Narudhoo from severe coastal erosion, handing the project over to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the ceremony today. State Minister Hassan Faizal Rasheed signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, while MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed for the company.
Narudhoo, home to 686 residents, has suffered significant land loss, damaging homes and farms. The project will restore and protect the shoreline by pumping 30,540 cubic meters of sand and constructing 565 meters of groynes. The work, valued at MVR 20.05 million, is expected to be completed within 180 days.
Cabinet ministers, MPs, and council representatives attended the event. Established in 1980, MTCC has delivered numerous infrastructure projects across the Maldives, bringing expertise to ensure durable coastal protection for Narudhoo.
The project aims to safeguard homes, farmland, and future development while securing the island’s coastline against further erosion.
