Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that operations at the existing terminal of Hanimaadhoo International Airport will be moved to the new terminal ahead of its official opening next month.
The change comes as part of final preparations to open the upgraded terminal on November 9.
MACL said the shift is necessary to allow full use of the newly developed runway by Code C aircraft, in line with Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) standards. For this, the current terminal, nearby bar terminal, and other tall buildings will be demolished to ensure runway clearance.
The old terminal, nearby bar terminal, and other tall structures will be demolished to clear the runway path. MACL has started the ORAT process to test systems and train staff before the opening. Details were shared with the island council and relevant ministries earlier this month.
