President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced 27 bills to Parliament this session to strengthen governance and fight corruption.
He made the announcement while meeting Mahibadhoo residents on his South Ari Atoll tour. Of the 27 planned, 12 will introduce new laws. This includes a constitutional amendment to hold Presidential and Parliamentary elections together, which requires a public referendum.
The President said six bills will target corruption. They will close loopholes and improve enforcement. Amendments will cover the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, Asset Recovery Bill, Criminal Procedure Act, Mutual Legal Assistance Act, Anti Corruption Commission Act, Penal Code, and Judicature Act.
He stressed that these reforms will empower the judiciary, police, and oversight bodies. They will act faster and more effectively, ensuring justice and stronger governance nationwide.
