The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has appointed a five-member temporary committee to manage the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission.
The committee took charge at a ceremony held at the CSC, where members formally accepted their responsibilities and held consultations.
Under the new Media Commission law, ratified last Thursday, the CSC will manage the commission through this temporary body until new members are appointed.
The five appointed members are:
-
Ali Zaki, Director General, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts
-
Ahmed Mausoum, Director General, Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works
-
Aminath Shahida, Director General, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade
-
Aminath Naseer, Director General, Ministry of Islamic Affairs
-
Imad Mohamed, Chief Corporate Executive, National Archives of Maldives
The Media Commission normally has seven members, including three approved by Parliament and four elected by the media.
The commission is tasked with advising the government on broadcasting, safeguarding press freedom, raising public awareness, and curbing false news. It can also instruct authorities and service providers to act against those spreading misinformation.
