Construction has begun on the harbor development project in Vaavu Fulidhoo, launched Friday during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island.
The project was inaugurated by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthalib. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was awarded the MVR 463.46 million contract on September 7, with a completion period of 465 days.
Fulidhoo’s 521 residents face difficulties due to the small size of the existing harbor, which hampers cargo handling and passenger movement. MTCC said the new harbor will ease these challenges and bring economic benefits.
The project includes dredging nearly 80,000 cubic meters, a 300-meter quay wall, 439 meters of revetment, a 77-meter breakwater, and a 40-meter concrete bridge, along with pavement and harbor lights.
