President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that public opinion will guide the upcoming referendum on Addu City’s administrative zones, calling it a historic milestone.
Speaking on the “Rayyithunnaa Eku” podcast, the President said the October vote will determine whether each island in Addu atoll adds the suffix “Addu” and elects its own council, or remains under the existing Addu City Council.
The president also highlighted planned reforms, including measures to safeguard judicial independence through budget block grants, revisions to the remuneration of former Presidents and MPs, increased funding for Women’s Development Committees, adjustments to council block grants, and reforms to the State Trading Organization to ensure essential goods.
