Authorities have confirmed that an individual facing mental health challenges assaulted his father with a knife in AA. Ukulhas on Saturday night.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m, when a 26 year old Maldivian man reportedly attacked his 60 year old father with a sharp object.
The victim was quickly taken to the AA. Ukulhas Health Centre for treatment. Medical officials confirmed that he had sustained injuries to both his abdomen and arm, but noted that the wounds were not life threatening.
Witnesses familiar with the matter said the attack appeared sudden, leaving the father injured before others intervened. Police later confirmed that the suspect, who has a history of mental health issues, was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries, while the case highlights ongoing concerns about mental health and community safety.
