CAA Launches Strict Anti Intoxication Policy for Aviation Crew

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has rolled out a stringent crackdown on drug and alcohol use among aviation personnel, making all licensed crew members subject to unannounced testing during Ramp inspections.

Working in coordination with the National Drug Agency (NDA), technical teams will now conduct surprise checks on pilots, cabin crew, and other licensed aviation staff. The regulation, effective since May 2025, introduces a zero-tolerance approach aimed at eliminating any risk of intoxication within the industry.

Authorities have made it clear that crew members testing positive will face immediate suspension, permanent loss of license, and possible criminal prosecution. With random tests carried out at unpredictable times and locations, officials stress that evasion will be impossible.

Aviation experts warn that even one violation could jeopardize hundreds of lives. “A single lapse under the influence is enough to trigger disaster,” a senior safety officer emphasized. “There will be no second chances.”

By empowering the NDA to enforce these measures, the government has reclassified drug and alcohol use by aviation professionals as a serious national security issue rather than simple misconduct. While urging the public to have full confidence in the system, authorities have sent a clear message to aviation staff: anyone deemed unfit to serve will be swiftly identified and permanently removed.
