A medical management training program was held in preparation for AFEX, aimed at ensuring readiness for emergency situations that may arise at VIA.
The training program was organized by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in collaboration with MACL. The full-scale Airport Emergency Exercise (AFEX) is scheduled to take place on 8 September 2025, simulating a scenario of an aircraft emergency at the airport to test the SOPs of relevant agencies and the coordinated emergency response of airline operators.
Participating in the training program were IGMH, Hulhumalé Hospital, Tree Top Hospital, ADK Hospital, Maldives Medical Services (MMS), and Airport Emergency Services, with a total of 73 participants taking part in the sessions.
AFEX is a mandatory exercise required under regulations of the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to test and validate airport emergency preparedness and ensure inter-agency coordination.
This year’s AFEX will involve 33 institutions and volunteer groups, with the participation of 391 individuals.
