The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has formally requested the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to host a training camp for the Palestinian U-17 national team.
In preparation for the upcoming AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Palestinian team is scheduled to hold their camp in the Maldives from November 8 to 19.
Due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, Palestinian teams are currently unable to train or compete on home soil, prompting the need to rely on international partners for training facilities and support.
Following the request from the PFA, FAM has announced its decision to seek government assistance to facilitate the visit. As part of the training camp, the Maldives U-17 team is also expected to play two friendly matches against Palestine.
At a recent Executive Committee (Exco) meeting held on Sunday, FAM resolved to approach the government for financial support to cover the Palestinian team’s expenses during their stay. The committee also agreed to seek sponsorship for the upcoming friendly matches.
Palestine is placed in Group D of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will take place in India. The group also includes India, Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon, with the matches scheduled from November 22 to 30.
